Text: Mark 1:16-20
16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." 18 At once they left their nets and followed him. 19 When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. 20 Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.
Thoughts:
Simon and his brother Andrew were fishermen and i believe that they have thought that they would just cast nets into the lake the rest of their lives. Little did they know that God had a better plan for their lives...so with James son of Zebedee and his brother John.
When Jesus called them to follow Him, they left their nets and followed him. James and his brother even left their father in the boat with their hired men and followed Jesus.
Wow, as i was meditating on these passages, it came to my mind that ,"If they were not fishermen, would they immediately follow Jesus?" What if they were businessmen who were so rich at that time or let's say they were like the rich young ruler, do you think they would follow Jesus immediately?
I thought like, maybe what they were thinking as they followed Jesus immediately was, " Thank You Lord! At Last, i wont smell these stinky bunch of fish anymore ...oh yeah!" or "Yes! i won't be afraid of the sharks anymore every time we go to the deep water during the night....oh yeah! baby!"...Hahahaha. Those were just in my thoughts when i was meditating on these passages but i believe following Jesus was their main concern.
As i reviewed what Peter said when they already started to follow Jesus, he said in John 6:68-69: "Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God."
That to me was a strong statement why they followed Jesus and left their old life. "Lord,to whom shall we go?"
Yes, there's no other way we could go than going to Jesus and ask Him, "What's your plan for my life?"..."What do you want me to do right at this very moment?"...
And Peter was right, Jesus has the words of eternal life....Jesus is the same yesterday ,today and forever (Hebrews 13:8) and whatever he said, it will come to pass.
Also, Jesus is the Holy One of God...He is the Son of God...He is God who was with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit when he created the world (Genesis 1). He is the same God who has brought us in this world and who has great plans for our lives.
In Jeremiah 29:11 ,it says, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
What Does God Want You To Do At This Very Moment?....Follow Him.
