No Good Thing

Text: Psalm 16:2 I said to the Lord, "You are my Lord, apart from you, I have no good thing.

King David was a successful warrior...one of the greatest kings of Israel, highly honored and had great solid achievements, but, in all these successes, he was humble enough to acknowledge that apart from God, he had no good thing. I salute him for these words, 'I said to the Lord, 'you are my Lord, apart from you, I have no good thing.'" It's a reminder for each one of us that whatever accomplishments or successes we have, we should be humble enough to acknowledge that apart from God, we have no good thing.

There was a king named Nebuchadnezzar who once didn't acknowledge that God was the source of everything. He said, “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?” After he said that, he was driven away from people and ate grass like the ox. His body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird (Daniel 4:33).  At the end of that time, he raised  his eyes toward heaven, and his sanity was restored. Then he praised the Most High;honored and glorified him who lives forever. At the same time that his sanity was restored, his honor and splendor were returned to him for the glory of  his kingdom. His advisers and nobles sought him out, and he was restored to his throne and became even greater than before. And he praised, exalted and glorified the King of heaven and according to he said about God, "because everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble" (Daniel 4:34-36).

How constantly are you reminding yourself and telling God that apart from him, you have no good thing? Remember that all we have accomplished, God has done for us. Without God, we have no good thing. Apart from him, we are nothing.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

As we celebrate this Christmas, let's remember the real reason of this season,
the Lord Jesus Christ.
May your heart be filled with His love today.
His love endures forever.

Gift-giving and Christmas Party Turned To Giving To Yolanda Victims

Collage of pictures during the packing of relief goods
held in our connect group host's house

I handle a teens/youth connect group but most of the attendees are kids ages 6-14. These are ordinary kids who go to public schools and live in small houses in a barangay in Paranaque.

During December, the cell group host (who is also our church member and who owns the house where we hold our bible study) and I prepare food and simple gifts for the kids and we always have simple gift-giving that the kids are able to give to each other and have games for fun.

But this December, when I was planning for our simple Christmas party, it came to my idea to just tell the kids that we are not going to have our Christmas party anymore but instead of gift-giving and party, we  will just give relief goods to the Yolanda victims.

Before i asked them to send their relief goods to our connect group meeting, i taught them first about giving based on 2 Corinthians 9:1-12, and emphasized on  verses 6-8 that say,

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,
and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give,
not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
And God is able to bless you abundantly,
so that in all things at all times, having all that you need,
you will abound in every good work

I was surprised that the kids were very willing to give. The following Saturday, 10 of them went back to our connect group meeting and gave clothes, shoes, canned goods, noodles and a toy.

kids happy to give to the Yolanda Victims

We packed them in a box and the next day (Sunday), our cell group host brought it to the church because our church has teams that go to different places like Leyte, Cebu, Aklan and different places affected by the typhoon Yolanda and give relief goods to the typhoon victims.

Although our church has enough funds to give relief goods to thousands and thousands of Yolanda typhoon victims and they don't need a thing from an ordinary kid/ordinary kids, those kids were still willing what they have and for them, it is a blessing to give.

I was teary eyed when i was packing those relief goods with the kids and our connect group host and assistant because those kids were so happy to share what they have and they had that feeling of accomplishment and they felt good and happy about it.

Some of their words to Yolanda victims were: "God loves you. Don't worry. God will help you."
