Where Is Respect Nowadays?

We live in a generation in which everything is almost a click away. Technologies are getting "high tech". Our gadgets are getting new every month or less. The last year's new technologies or gadgets became obsolete easily, and in this generation, i observe that even respect is becoming "obsolete" in some younger generations' vocabularies.

Where is respect nowadays? There are young people who don't even know how to respect the older generations and they even call them names...names that mock, names that hurt, names that make them feel insecure and worse, feel embarrassed. Some students don't know how to respect their teachers or mentors anymore. They are mad with teachers or mentors who correct them when they get wrong but they love those who allow them to do what they want. In addition, some children don't even know how to respect their parents. They even call them stupid or dumb. That is so sad.

Where is the "po" and "opo" nowadays? The silence when older people come in? The silence when teachers speak? The apology when you have done wrong? A listening attitude when you are being told that what you have done was wrong? A listening attitude when wise and older people speak? Where is the respect when other people speak and give their ideas? Where is the respect when you are being asked to listen and take heed?

Romans 13:7 NIV says, "Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor." (emphasis mine).

"Treat everyone you meet with dignity. Love your spiritual family. Revere God. Respect the government."-I Peter 2:17 NIV

We may be in a fast-paced environment or a booming generation but "respect" should not be forgotten.

"Treat men exactly as you would like them to treat you"- Luke 6:31 Phillips Translations
