No Good Thing

Text: Psalm 16:2 I said to the Lord, "You are my Lord, apart from you, I have no good thing.

King David was a successful warrior...one of the greatest kings of Israel, highly honored and had great solid achievements, but, in all these successes, he was humble enough to acknowledge that apart from God, he had no good thing. I salute him for these words, 'I said to the Lord, 'you are my Lord, apart from you, I have no good thing.'" It's a reminder for each one of us that whatever accomplishments or successes we have, we should be humble enough to acknowledge that apart from God, we have no good thing.

There was a king named Nebuchadnezzar who once didn't acknowledge that God was the source of everything. He said, “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?” After he said that, he was driven away from people and ate grass like the ox. His body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird (Daniel 4:33).  At the end of that time, he raised  his eyes toward heaven, and his sanity was restored. Then he praised the Most High;honored and glorified him who lives forever. At the same time that his sanity was restored, his honor and splendor were returned to him for the glory of  his kingdom. His advisers and nobles sought him out, and he was restored to his throne and became even greater than before. And he praised, exalted and glorified the King of heaven and he said about God, "because everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble" (Daniel 4:34-36).

How constantly are you reminding yourself and telling God that apart from him, you have no good thing? Remember that all we have accomplished, God has done for us. Without God, we have no good thing. Apart from him, we are nothing.
